Fun Day at the Sew & Quilt Show!
What a wonderful day. Mental note to self for next year: take snacks. We didn't have time to stop and eat and didn't want to pay $7 for a sandwich anyway - so snacks in the bag would have been very helpful. We were there from opening to almost closing time. It was amazing. So much talent. Everyone was so sweet and kind - it was the kind of day you rarely experience any more. Meeting so many people that are just plain good and generous with their time and talents. Look at some of what we did . . .
The owner and her sweet daughter from Pegboard Crafts let Cherith create a zippered little bag - at no charge. Then, while we were working on that another sweet lady GAVE Cherith her $25 gift certificate that she won from that booth! We picked out the program that lets you make 7 different size zippered bags. Hopefully Ruth will be able to use it on her embroidery machine that she is pulling out of storage.
This lady, Evy Hawkins, (love her name!) was amazing! (Can you see her shawl?) She took the time to help Cherith create a quilt panel that was totally adorable. Her creations are enough to make your mouth water. I wish I could have taken pictures - but you have to go to her website to see the amazing things she has. My favorite was the velvet rose pin. Sooo pretty! Click on the pretty flowers above to see her website and more of her things.

The finished product!
Ruth knows so much about sewing, she was very helpful about how we can implement the things we saw that we liked and helping to incorporate them into her and Cherith's class time. Did I tell you everyone was so sweet and kind? Did I tell you we had a good time? We did.
Here are pictures Ruth took!
There were some good causes represented there. ConKerr Cancer collects homemade pillowcases for kids with cancer. Cherith and Ruth found some fun fabric to make and donate to this great cause. We also visited another cause close to my heart, Tiny Stitches, that collects beautiful homemade funeral clothing for premature babies. When we buried our baby back in 1996 this service wasn't around and she was buried in doll clothing.
Dusty's Vintage Textiles had a zillion vintage buttons, tablecloths (be still my heart) and trim pieces. Oh my were they gorgeous. She gave me instructions on how to wash my vintage tablecoths - can you believe this, add bleach. Aack! I could hardly believe it and it frightens me, but I am going to do it!

From Beth: Ran into my former mid-wife at Hobby Lobby today. When I told her my dd was just learning to sew she got all excited and said you have to go to the Original Sew & Quilt Show at the Gwinnett Civic Center. We looked it up and it looks amazing. I am excited to spend the day exploring the world of fabric and patterns! Check it out! Click on the logo above to see more information.

Our new blog! & Lesson One
From Beth: Sewing has become so exciting - we want to share it with everyone! Mom (Beth) got us going with a new blog - but Cherith and Miss Ruth will be adding their comments. Miss Ruth is Cherith's wonderful teacher. We heart her!!
Lesson 1 was pretty exciting. We had a huge issue to overcome with the sewing machine - they spent a lot of time trying to figure out if either of my old machines could or would work. No, neither one would work out in the future. They managed to get a lot done in spite of that!
